Caitlin+Pat @ The Society Room, Hartford CT

Last weekend on Sept, 3rd, Caitlin and Pat were married in Hartford at the beautiful Society Room. What was cool is that I photographed her sisters wedding several years back and will be photographing her OTHER sisters wedding next year at the Bushnell–so you know, it’s kinda like hanging out with people you know! Take a look..

The Residence Inn in downtown Hartford had these HUGE Windows on the top floor rooms! PERFECT for that ‘dress shot’ you’re always looking for a cool spot to shoot but often cannot find

***

something about her moms expression here just get to me… it’s just so SWEET

since her wedding like I mentioned, her sister Meghan has had a new little addition to the family!

***

…meanwhile in the lobby, I met up with the fellas and prepared for our First Look…

lets just say, that getting a clear shot without too many people in downtown Hartford right next to the bus stop was not so easy…

we did a whole lotta strolling around the city

hands down my favorite!! (of course, now I cant use that sign again in a photo I suppose…)

***

I’d never done a ceremony IN the Society Room before, so it was cool to se how it was all set up, and certainly makes for a Grand Entrance for the bride!!

honestly: just LOOK at how he is looking at her—you can’t fake that.

The band ( whose name I should know but sadly do not, feel free to add that info in a comment below if you know their name! ) were GREAT and there was a REALLY energetic dancing crowd to boot!

UPDATE: its the The Clark Eno Orchestra!!

many thanks to Caitlin, Pat and their families for making it such a cool, easy going day (my favorite kind–where I can actually do creative stuff!) I will be seeing you before you know it next year once again in Hartford! Until then, enjoy!

I know it Val–its such a cool sign, but it’ll be like wearing the same shirt to a party 3 weeks in a row!

Val McCormick - September 12, 2011 - 5:11 pm

Beautiful as always Robert! Um, I’ll be looking for that “Stage” LOL.

Candace Jeffery - September 12, 2011 - 12:20 pm

I love the seated group shot :)

Meghan - September 11, 2011 - 12:53 pm

Wow! These are great! You really captured what a fun night it was! And Clark Eno Orchestra :)

Larissa+Robert+hurricane Irene @ Harkness State Park

Larissa and Robert were married this past Saturday August 27 at the Eolia Mansion at Harkness State Park

You know?

The day Hurricane Irene decided to plow through.

I honestly did not know if this was going to proceed as the Governor had all state parks closing at sunset (of course if you based it on looking at the sky, it was so gloomy who could tell when sunset actually WAS anyway?…) But luckily for whatever reason, our park was allowed to stay open later. They decided to start everything 2 hours earlier to avoid the weather as much as possible and give people time to leave, and luckily everyone involved in the day (including Dana Bartone and Culinary Concerts staff) were able to accommodate.

But enough about the stupid hurricane – here’s their wedding!!

let me tell you – i was lucky that everyone was in such good spirits and open to any last minutes changes we needed to make…a tightly wound group would have made this day impossible. I suggested that the guys and gals all arrive earlier than we planned and that we do a First Look so that we could avoid any rain that might pass through–which worked out GREAT as we took ALL out photos outside!!!! We could not believe how we lucked out.

The oysters–the plastic shark? A long story…

…so the guys were ready way in advance (how about THAT?!) and hanging out in the lobby and Robert asked, “What should we DO for now?” I looked over and saw the Hilton bar was open and pointed them in that direction!

***

the rubber shark even went for a ride in Larissa’s bouquet!

Larissa later told me how glad she was to have done a First Look, and realized afterwards she would have wanted it even had it not been arranged due to weather…

a tip for future brides: its 2011 and a GREAT IDEA!!!!!

I sent the good sports out into the wet field, umbrellas in hand—

I think this is my fave from the day

***

I conspired with celebrant Mary Coburn to quickly move the ceremony from the foyer to outside under a covered area as it was not really raining–I thought- “If we can get outside for this lets DO IT!”

I swear: if I could order up fog at every wedding I would–makes everything look so COOL!!!

I just love this shot of her grandfather—

PHOTO TECH GEEK CORNER:

oddly, I managed to get several shots where i actually caught a guests flash from the side lighting them as they cut their cake. As fate would have it, it ended up actually being an interesting side light!

Larissas dad did a bit of a ‘skit’ to Paul Simons “Father-Daughter”, complete with signage!

be-gone foul Irene – we fought through it and ended up with an amazing day!! (by the way – I promised Larissa I could ‘fix everything’ in Photoshop and give her ‘sunny skies and unicorns’ – to see the result of that, click here!!!

This was an incredible photo shoot!! I have seen many photo books of Weddings but this has such elegance, no not the word …ummm PENACHE yeeeess from the candles on the mantle piece, the jars of honey, to the small lavender bouquets on the the table setting. Marvelous presentation, of an exceptional wedding! XOXO Andrea

LOVE these pics!! Beautiful job Robert!!!

Sarah+Mike @ The Inn at Longshore, Westport CT

Sarah and Mike were married this past Friday at The Inn at Longshore in Westport CT. There was a small bit of a scare in advance in that Hurricane Irene was on her way, but we knew for the most part that we were in the clear for Friday…and it turned out to be warm and wonderful.

These ETSY handmade hangers seem to be this seasons Hot Item! Sooooo much better than the stupid plastic ones ( you spend ALL that money on a dress and they give you a flimsy plastic hanger worth 50 cents )

Sarah got ready at the Inn while Jay Fleming hung out with the fellas in Norwalk at The Doubletree…

that red wall is the coolest – can I get that for my house?…

beer stop!!!

I just LOVE that so many couples are doing (and understanding) a First Look rather than trying to jam all their photos into a 45 minute chunk during cocktail hour!!!

there was such wonderful, glowy light coming in off the water that day—

this was so cute--it took a little coaxing, but then they would NOT get out of this pose afterwards–they kinda got into it!!!

near the end of cocktails the light sank on the horizon and gave us a beautiful, warm light that I had been hoping for all afternoon!

Sarah’s mom may kill me for including this emotional moment – but I can’t help myself when something that REAL happens so spontaneously!

Hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon and thanks for making it a really fun day! Talk to you when you return :)

Alex+Adam @ Martha Clara Vineyard, Long Island

wow-wee: this is a fun one!!

And i’m going to start off by saying that while there is ‘love in the air’ at each and every wedding – there was something special for me this time around. It was the way they looked at each other – and into each others eyes. (now i’m going to get all romance novel here) but you really could FEEL it, and i’m not just saying that. It was the same even at their engagement session at Yankee Stadium ( where they met a number of years back ) So anyway, with that  little nugget in mind, take a look at Alex and Adam’s wedding on the North Fork of Long Island at Martha Clara Vineyard….

look at those groovy and PRACTICAL (!!!) shoes: no damn heel to fight with all day!!!

we stayed at the Hotel Indigo East End (VERY nice I might add) and there were all sorts of modern spots and details, and I thought this was a cool spot for Alex’s flowers. Kinda modern and graphic.

Her sister Katherine was a bride of mine from 4 years ago – and since then have had this cute little fella who was one of the ringbearers!

her dad’s expression here kills me!!!

***

This blazer did not last very long as it was—well…REALLY quite hot and poor Adam was sweating and miserable (of course, I was all in black and sweat was dripping into and  burning my eyeballs, so I wasn’t a happy camper at this point either)

BUT–one look at Alex and his mood quickly changed!!

I had to include this since at the time it was so funny: Alex’s dad kinda just walked right through our photoshoot without knowing….you had to be there..

Adams nephew: out other little ringbearer!

I went to walk back inside and noticed how cool the inside of this door was. The groom is hiding behind it to keep it open for us!

***

I really, REALLY like this shot ( did i mentioned i REALLY liked it?? )

now THAT’S like ‘movie backlighting’ you dream about (at least i do, but i’m odd that way)

this was something i’d never seen before : the Rabbi had them write down their flaws and weaknesses and then symbolically burned them. It occurred to me she’d of needed a thick legal pad and blowtorch if I were to write mine down…

I included this for photo dorks out there – a little behind the scenes of Adam’s brother helping us out with lighting.

bad lighting but fun shots: some impromptu dancing in the vineyard!!

and speaking of practical – wedding dresses with pockets get a BIG thumbs up from Mr Norman.

he looks like the welcoming committee in these shots!

***

the always semi-frightning-dangerous-if-you-get-too-close-to-photograph Horah dance!!!

Yes.      He’s smelling the cake.

I don’t recall WHAT she was saying to me, but i LOVE that expression

that lower right photo.

The tongues?

THAT’S why you don’t want your photographer there until the very end!!! LOL

thanks to you both for a great 3 day weekend of shooting and hanging out! Hope you’re having a terrific honeymoon!

Melissa+Tom @ The Greenwich Hyatt

Melissa and Tom were married August 6th at St Thomas in Fairfield Ct with a reception following at the beautiful and grand Hyatt Regency, Greenwich. I will just go ahead and get this out of the way right now: these 2 were so darnphotogenic I could have taken great shots with my eyes closed shooting over my shoulder backwards. This was a very difficult edit – not because it was hard to find the winners, but because there were SO MANY that I had to try and whittle down!

we started off at Melissa’a parents house in Fairfield CT… her 10 (!!) bridesmaids and 3 flower girls all on hand to help…

I love the flower girls expression here watching Melissa get dressed–

***

Melissa is – like I said, a natural in front of the camera and is a singer as well (a little plug – here is a link to some of her music!!)

….you know – its hot and a gal has to keep cool.  Marilyn Monroe did it!…

***

meanwhile at the church…

afterwards, we all went to Southport Harbor for our “formals” (  i hate that word, but you know what I mean ) It was PERFECTLY overcast—wonderful, soft light!

**
then it’s on to the Hyatt!!…

Jay Fleming who was second shooting, knew about this super-secret ‘hatch’ above the room to get this great angle.
